Well, Easter is almost over! The Fifty Days are winding down as we prepare next week to celebrate Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. Some people may be looking for “Ave Maria” or other Marian hymns because it is also Mother’s Day, but the Church calendar always comes before the secular one as far as our worship is concerned. So, sorry Moms, but you’ll have to be content with hymns to the Holy Spirit.

We are honoring the Virgin Mary with May Crowning this month. Join us on Monday, May 12, at 7:00 pm. One of our First Communicants will crown the new image of the BVM that is near the bell tower. Our service of psalms, litany, hymns, prayers and procession begins in the Chapel and ends outside, weather permitting. All women of the parish are especially encouraged to attend.

Speaking of the new Mary statue, I am grateful to Tony and Carlotta Zuback for the donation in memory of Tony’s mother and Fr. Donatelli. The image is typical of those honored by the Benedictines from the medieval period. Take some time to pray at the shrine if you haven't already.

On Tuesday, May 13, I leave for a long planned trip with my family to Italy. While I am away, a number of visiting priests will be here to celebrate Masses. Please note that Wednesday evening confessions will not be heard on the two Wednesdays I am gone, May 14 and May 21. I return to the office on Tuesday, May 27.

The latest news from the Clergy Office is that we can expect a parochial vicar on or about July 7. Changes in assignments usually follow ordinations, and our three new priests will be ordained on June 21. That includes Deacon Michael Ruffalo. The parish will have a bus to the cathedral for the Ordination Mass. To reserve a space on the bus, contact Janet Roberto in Youth Ministry. Michael will return here on Sunday, June 29, to celebrate the 12:30 pm Mass and a parish reception will follow. All are invited!

Busson Portrait Directories will be with us in July to create a new pictorial directory for the parish. It’s been some years since the last directory and we want to offer a newer one for our growing membership. The company will schedule family and individual photos in O’Brien Hall and at the same time there will be a chance to update your census information and register children for the Religious Education program that begins in September 2008.
