Parish Pastoral Council News
The following parishioners have been in the process of discerning a call to become members of our Pastoral Council. Here is a brief synopsis on each one. They will present themselves to the parish on Friday, July 11, as we celebrate our feast day, at the 7:30pm Mass. Please keep them in your prayers during this time.
- Dale Buttgereit—Dale has been a member of our parish for 5 years and came into the Church through RCIA. He has served as Hall Monitor for Religious Education and is married and the father of two. His desire to become a member stems from a desire to demonstrate commitment to his faith and experience growth in the spiritual life.
- Ed Corbett—Ed’s participation in the parish goes back 7 years. He was a lapsed Catholic who found his way back home. Married with four children, Ed is an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion helps with Youth Ministry, leads our Catholic Men’s Fellowship group and Scripture Study. His desire is to help others come to a deeper understanding of what their faith means, and to see our parish as their family.
- Kathleen Davis—Kathy works in the field of education and has been an Extraordinary Minister since joining the parish in 2006. She also helps with church decorating for the holidays. A widow, Kathy believes her prior experience as a council member at a former parish and as a catechist will help her undertake this role. She has experienced God calling her to service and wants to see the connectedness she feels with those who minister with her spread to the whole parish.
- Erik Mertens—A member of St. Benedict for 30 years, Erik’s family welcomed a new daughter this year making him the father of three. He wants to draw the young into a deeper relationship with the parish and believes we can use the social aspect to accomplish this. His disillusionment comes from seeing many of his contemporaries who say they have “no time” for church. Erik has been part of Youth Ministry.
- Angelo Pampena—Angelo joined the parish 15 years ago and serves as a catechist. His wife is in the choir and they have a son. His desire is to see the parish as a welcoming place where everyone feels part of our community. Because God has blessed him with gifts, he feels responsible to share those with others. He believes everyone has gifts to share and we need to draw those out.
- Becky Pfeifer—A member of the parish for 14 years, Becky serves at the altar and recently became an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. She resides with her parents and two brothers, and is beginning her sophomore year at W & J. She was an aide for Vacation Bible School in the past. Her contribution to the council will be to bring the perspective of her age group. She enjoys using her creativity and wants to spread her excitement.
- Jane Sarra—While she attended Mass here for 5 years, Jane is the newest parishioner of the council candidates, formally registering in 2007. Her previous involvement in her former parish is extensive, including council membership, and she serves as an Extraordinary Minister here. Jane believes there is tremendous opportunity for growth in the parish and wants to re-imagine what we can be as church. She identifies herself as a team player and takes pride when any group that she is part of can look to its accomplishments.
